Favorite site or activity to guide and why? In terms of favorite places to guide, for me it is Jerusalem. That’s where it all starts for me. Our very existence here is directly linked to this city.
What’s your best tip for first time visit in Israel? I always tell the people I guide that I don’t talk exhaustively about everything everywhere we go, so it’s very important to try and create a direct connection with every place we visit. This connection is established through observation, listening to the voices and the sounds, the smells and the inner feeling, and asking yourself “how do I feel in here?” In other words, don’t just settle for my explanations. Be open, listen to the environment, look, hear, smell…
Favorite Jewish/Israeli historical figure and why? Considering the time we’re going through, I choose the Nachshon Aminadav, the Israelite prince of the tribe of Judah who was the first to jump into the swirling waters of the Red Sea when commanded to by God and Moses. He faced the threat of the sea, fearing that the leadership was not taking the initiative, so he demonstrated faith and leadership himself and lead by example. 3,300 years or so, after that, we again see that in the absence of leadership, the decisive thing is for all the people to embody the spirit of Nachshoni ben Aminadav. Without thinking twice, just jump into the sea.
